Who are the RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders?

RoSPA’s Advanced Drivers and Riders is a network of groups around the United Kingdom that provides free driver and riding training to help you improve your skills and prepares you to take the RoSPA Advanced Test.

What is a RoSPA test?

The RoSPA test is considered the most advanced and challenging advanced driving test open to the public. The test lasts around 60-80 minutes. The examiners are serving or retired Police officers. What makes the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test unique is that a driver is graded either Bronze, Silver or Gold.

What is involved in an advanced driving test?

An advanced driving test covers a range of urban and country roads, plus motorways where possible. You’ll learn advanced level control, observation, timing, road positioning and how best to deal with unpredictable roads and other road users’ behaviour. Can you still drive at 80?

There is no upper age limit for driving a car. However, all drivers have to renew their driving licence when they reach the age of 70 and every three years from then on. When completing the form you will need to declare any medical conditions you have and confirm that you meet the eyesight requirements for driving.

How long does it take to become an advanced driver?

Advanced Driver Course – this comprehensive course conducted by qualified experts is divided into two-hour sessions and takes three to six months to complete. You’ll focus on specific skills like control, observation, timing and dealing with unpredictable road situations.
