When do you remove Aquacel dressing?
The dressing will be removed approximately 14 days after your operation.
How long does Aquacel stay on?
The dressing can be left in place for up to seven days subject to regular clinical assessment and local dressing protocol. All wounds/incisions should be monitored frequently. Remove AQUACEL® Ag SURGICAL Dressing when clinically indicated (i.e., leakage, excessive bleeding, suspicion of infection or at seven days).
How do you remove a surgical dressing?
Remove the old dressing:
- Carefully loosen the tape from your skin.
- Use a clean (not sterile) medical glove to grab the old dressing and pull it off.
- If the dressing sticks to the wound, wet it and try again, unless your provider instructed you to pull it off dry.
- Put the old dressing in a plastic bag and set it aside.
When can you remove dressing after hip replacement?
You will MAINTAIN your post-operative dressing for 7 days. After 7 DAYS (from the date of your surgery), you will remove your dressing. DO NOT apply lotions or creams to incision site, unless instructed otherwise. dressing is removed prior to 7 days.

Should Aquacel Ag be moistened?
If the wound bed is relatively dry, it is recommended that AQUACEL® Ag Dressing is placed in the wound and then moistened with sterile saline over the wound area only. The vertical absorption of the dressing will help to maintain the moist area over the wound only and reduce the risk of periwound maceration.
How do you remove a wound dressing without it hurting?
Soak a cotton ball or cotton swab in baby oil. If you don’t have baby oil handy, olive oil, petroleum jelly, or baby shampoo will work, too. Next, gently rub it over the bandage until it falls off. You can test to see if it’s working by slowly peeling up a corner of the bandage.

Changing Your Dressing
- Put on a new pair of non-sterile gloves.
- Pour saline into a clean bowl.
- Squeeze the saline from the gauze pads or packing tape until it is no longer dripping.
- Place the gauze pads or packing tape in your wound.
- Cover the wet gauze or packing tape with a large dry dressing pad.
How do you remove dressing from hip replacement?
Follow these steps when you change your dressing:
- Wash your hands well with soap and water.
- Remove the dressing carefully.
- Soak some clean gauze with saline and wipe from one end of the incision to the other.
- Dry the incision the same way with clean, dry gauze.
- Check your wound for signs of infection.
How long do you leave dressing on after surgery?
The original dressing can be left in place for up to two days (or as advised by the nurse/doctor), as long as it is not oozing. The wound must be kept dry for two days. If the dressing becomes wet from blood or any other liquid, it must be changed.
