What is the herring season?

The fat content varies between 10% and 25% throughout the year, so it’s important to catch herring in the right place and at the right time – and this depends on the type of herring you are looking for. North Sea herring spawns from August to January in Dogger Bank.

  • Thurgo’s Peninsula: South of Port Sarim, dotting the western shore of the peninsula, located behind the church and near Thurgo’s shack.

How do you catch freshwater herrings?

The best way to rig saltwater herring for freshwater fish is either through the lip or through the back. You can troll or jig herring by hooking it through the lips. I recommend cutting the herring in half and using each half as bait for catfish or striped bass.

This aggressive behaviour also makes herring a great option for chasing with lures. The most popular lure for these fish is the green straw on a hook, closely followed by the Halco Twisty. Most small minnow shaped lures will work as will smaller soft plastics.
