Reducol is a unique ingredient containing plant sterols and stanols, commonly known as phytosterols, which have been clinically proven to significantly lower Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol.

Are plant sterol supplements effective?

While plant sterols help lower LDL cholesterol, they don’t appear to affect your levels of HDL cholesterol or triglycerides. One Canadian study concluded that plant sterols are the most effective natural treatments for high cholesterol.

What does phytosterols do for the body?

Phytosterols (called plant sterol and stanol esters) are found in plant cell membranes. Phytosterols are similar in structure to cholesterol in the human body and block cholesterol from being absorbed. They should be part of a heart-healthy eating plan.

Is too much plant sterols bad for you?

Plant sterols/stanols are generally safe for most healthy people. Side effects include diarrhea or fat in the stool. In people with sitosterolemia, high plant sterol levels have been associated with increased risk of premature atherosclerosis.

Phytosterols (PSs) are steroid alcohols composed of a tetracyclic cyclopenta-α-phenanthrene ring and a side chain attached at the C-17 atom of the ring structure.

Can plant sterols increase estrogen?

Likewise, plant stanols and stanol esters failed to stimulate estrogen responsive growth in MCF-7 cells [83]. There is, however some evidence for the estrogenic effects of PS [84], with evidence from reporter gene array studies in human breast cancer cell lines suggesting a role for PS as weak SERMs [80].
