What is a lilliston?
The Lilliston rolling cultivator is a little known implement in the UK. It is widely used in North America as a cultivation and weeding implement. We have three Lilliston tools: one for weeding potatoes on ridges, one for weeding row crops and the most recent one for gentle cultivation.

A cultivator does just that. Cultivators do not churn as deeply as tillers and are often used between rows; keeping the weeds at bay while helping to aerate the soil. This way, the plants benefit from loose soil, which allows more water and fertilizer to get to their roots.

Are cultivators worth it?
A cultivator is good for loosening the soil in an existing planting area, weeding the area during the growing season or mixing compost into the soil. Cultivators are smaller and easier to maneuver than tillers. Tillers are more powerful than cultivators and have larger, heavy-duty tines that work the soil.
Can you use a cultivator instead of a plow?
