What does propane injection do to a diesel engine?

Propane acts as a catalyst and raises the burn rate of diesel fuel to almost 100 percent. Of course with the engine now burning almost 100 percent of its fuel, there is a dramatic increase in horsepower and torque. Fuel economy also improves, as the engine is now using its fuel more efficiently.

Is propane like nitrous for diesel?

Nitrous needs to react with something to make horsepower, so more fuel must be added for extra oxygen to be burned. With propane injection, the propane acts like a catalyst and makes the diesel fuel burn more effectively.

Can you run a diesel motor on propane?

First, propane is a fuel (not an oxidizer like nitrous oxide) and will explode sooner in the combustion chamber than diesel will. Mixing excess amounts of propane with diesel fuel will cause your engine to work against itself and blow up.

Can you run nitrous on a diesel engine?

Diesel engines are the perfect platform for nitrous injection. Since most diesel engines run a rich fuel mixture (denoted by the signature black smoke they can emit from the tailpipe), nitrous oxide helps burn this excess diesel fuel in the combustion chamber, extracting additional horsepower.

Is propane considered a petroleum product?

Propane is one of a group of liquefied petroleum gases (LP gases). The others include butane, propylene, butadiene, butylene, isobutylene, and mixtures thereof. Propane has a lower energy density but burns more cleanly than gasoline and coal.

Is propane cheaper than diesel?

Recently, the U.S. has witnessed a dramatic drop in diesel and gasoline prices; however, propane is still consistently less expensive than both fuels. On average, propane is 30% less expensive per gallon than gasoline and costs 50% less than diesel.

Can you use propane as nos?

Propane’s chemical composition is C3 H8, Nitrous Oxide is NO2. Everything needs oxygen to combust. As you can see Propane does not have any oxygen in it, so just by it’s self it would not burn. NOS on the other hand is very combustable, because it has over twice the amount of oxygen in it then the air around us.

Can you change a diesel car to LPG?

LPG burns in exactly the same way as petrol does; therefore you can’t convert a diesel car to run on LPG. A large tank, often 100 litres is fitted in the boot of the car. Piping is then run the length of the vehicle with valves at each end, one at the tank and the other attaching the LPG system to the petrol engine.

Can you put NOS on a diesel truck?

Nitrous oxide injection, used as intended, is relatively safe for use in diesel engines. Diesel engines tend to be significantly more robust than a standard gasoline engine and therefore can withstand higher cylinder pressures without the tendency to experience a catastrophic failure.

How do you put nitrous in a diesel engine?

Nitrous is most commonly injected after the turbocharger into the intake tract of a diesel. A popular place to install nozzles is right by the intake horn, just before air enters the cylinder head.

Why is propane bad?

Propane is an asphyxiant, meaning very high concentrations of the gas can cause suffocation. Exposure to high concentrations can also cause cardiac arrest, unconsciousness or seizures. Sustained contact with the skin can cause frostbite.
