What do Spanish ribbed newts eat?
The adults are mostly found under stones or in mud in their aquatic habitats, or sheltering under cover on land if the wetland dries up. Like all newts and salamanders the Spanish ribbed newt is a carnivore and has voracious feeding habits. The their food includes a variety of insects, small fish and even carrion.

Newts are carnivores. They eat slugs, worms, small invertebrates, amphibian eggs and insects on land. Tadpoles, shrimp, aquatic insects, insect larvae and mollusks are on the menu in the water.

Eggs kept at a temperature of 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit will start to hatch in seven to ten days. Try to keep eggs below 74 degrees, as high temperatures could accelerate development and cause deformities. When the larvae hatch, they are very small (10 millimeters), limbless and resemble a whitish colored tadpole.

Shedding. Newts shed regularly, and naturally, smaller, juvenile Spanish Ribbed Newts will shed more frequently than adult newts. When your newt is shedding, do not handle your pet at this time.
