How do you remove the haze from polymeric sand?

The Alliance polymeric sands do not contain cement. Hence the rainfall being slightly acidic will clean off our polymer residue haze. Some competitors put cement in their mix, this type of haze is very hard to remove. An acid wash using the Efflorescence Cleaner is recommended.

Can I stain polymeric sand?

Because of the polymer, the sand mixture has a tendency to stain in the same way that regular mortar stains brick. If this problem occurs there is a fix. If the area is large or has had 24 hours to cure and set, scrub brushes should be used.

What dissolves polymeric sand?

The best way to remove polymeric sand from a paver surface is to use a hot water pressure washer at 180°F. The heat will reactivate the polymers in the product and allow the sand to be stripped away. If it is a smaller area use boiling water.

How long does it take polymeric sand to settle?

A minimum of 24 hours drying time is required prior to allowing significant foot traffic and 48 hours for vehicular traffic on the paver surface. Polymeric sands are designed to soften and re-heal.

Can you pressure wash polymeric sand?

Yes, you can use a pressure washer but strictly if necessary. If it’s not possible to remove the hardened polymeric sand after a few days washing the surface, then you can bring on the “big guns.” The essential when using pressure wash is not to remove the polymeric sand between the joints.

Can you add more polymeric sand?

You have to completely remove all the pre-existing sand in the joints and start fresh. Secondly, you will have to wait a day while the surface dries before you can reapply your new sand. Remember polymeric sand and moisture don’t mix until after it’s in the joints!

Can you pressure wash pavers with polymeric sand?

Yes, they can be powerwashed but only if you take the time to do it right and follow the directions to a tee. The joints should be 1/4″ wide and as deep as the pavers. Which means you have to remove all the old sand. After applying the jointing sand, compacting is advised and then adding more sand.

Can you redo polymeric sand?

Unfortunately with polymeric sand replacement, you can’t just uproot any weeds and top it up. Secondly, you will have to wait a day while the surface dries before you can reapply your new sand. Remember polymeric sand and moisture don’t mix until after it’s in the joints!

Can you reapply polymeric sand?

Do you need to remove old polymeric sand?

This particular material exists specifically to provide a lasting bond between pavers. But unlike normal sand, the compound hardens very quickly when you expose it to moisture or water. Thus, you must remove polymeric sand from pavers’ surface before you finish your project.

What is polymeric modified sand used for?

Polymeric Jointing Sand is a polymeric-modified graded sand for filling joints up to 2 wide between interlocking pavers, brick, natural stone and concrete slaps. Simply sweep the sand into the joints and saturate with a water mist. The polymer modified sand hardens as it dries. Commercial and residential applications.

How do I know if my polymeric sand is safe to use?

1. Inspect for moisture. This is critical. Polymeric sand needs to be installed on a dry surface. Make sure there isn’t any dampness prior to diving right in and dumping those bags! 2. Check the weather.

How deep does polymeric sand need to be installed?

Your polymeric sand should have a minimum of 1″ in depth in the joint to be able to create a strong bond. It should also be installed 1/8″ below the top of the product or the bottom of the chamfer, whichever is the lower of the two.

Why choose polymeric sand for paver joints?

The introduction of polymeric sand helped homeowners prevent these unfavorable occurrences, however. Poly sand is an advanced mix of fine sand and polymer additives. Upon proper installation, the polymers activate and bind the joint sand matrix inside the paver joints. Poly sand is thus known for its durability.
