The E39 non-M5 cars never had LSD, so the info you got about 540it is wrong. The options available include M5 and retrofit 540i aftermarket LSD/torsen carriers.
Does E39 M5 come with LSD?
Yes, the M5 does have a limited slip. The other members of the E39 family (525i, 530i, and 540i) do not have limited slip.
