Does bottle size matter for newborns?

In the beginning, smaller is better. Most newborns will drink up to 4 ounces in a single feeding, so the smaller bottles are a great fit, with a Stage 1 slow-flow nipple (meant for preemies and newborns) to control how fast milk is released.

Can my baby have a small stomach?

It should be self-evident that very small people will have very small stomachs however many adults are surprised when they learn about the limited capacity of a newborn’s stomach.

How do I get my baby to eat bigger bottles?

Aim to extend the time between feeds, until she is able to feed at three to four hourly intervals during the day (timed from the start of the previous feed). Do this gradually over a number of days. Try distraction to get her to go a little longer between feeds but don’t push her to the point where she becomes upset.

Your baby should be able to take a 3-4 oz. bottle in about 15-20 minutes. If they finish too quickly they may not feel satiated and look for more milk that they may not really need.
