Can you swim in Thetis Lake?

The beach area of Thetis Lake is perfect for a family picnic or refreshing swim. If you have a canoe, try an early morning paddle and you may even have the lake all to yourself.

How long is the walk around Thetis Lake?

A complete loop of Thetis Lake can be completed in around 1 hour on foot, assuming ground conditions are good. Located 10 kilometres (or 6.5 miles) west of Victoria, BC, Thetis Lake is split into Upper Thetis Lake and Lower Thetis Lake, connected by a narrow culvert.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) is advising visitors that a blue-green algae bloom has occurred at Prior Lake in Thetis Lake Regional Park. Visitors are advised to avoid swimming in Prior Lake and to keep animals from drinking or swimming in the lake until the advisory has been lifted.

Is Thetis Lake busy?

Note: Thetis Lake Park is very busy during the hot summer months and pay parking is limited. Trails are a great alternative to accessing the park, as is BC Transit which has a stop approximately 1 Km from the Park entrance.

Anglers are attracted to the lake for its rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, brown bullhead, pumpkinseed sunfish and smallmouth bass. You can fish from shore or there is a boat launch for small boats.
