What is the difference between coping and capping?
Irrespective of the materials from which they are made, a coping will typically project by around 50mm on either side of the wall, whereas a capping will sit flush to the wall with no projections. In most cases, the coping/capping arrangement will not be completely water tight.
Do coping stones need a drip?
When you purchase your new copings you should ensure each side length has a drip molded into the concrete during manufacturing process. As rain moves down the coping it will try and run under the coping stones. The drips ensure the water drips off and you don’t get capillary attraction into the mortar bed.
